Every once in a while, some supposed emergency finds me putting on shoes without socks "for just a little bit". Then the little bit turns into a little while. Then the shoes go in the trash. I have ruined enough shoes that way - hell, ruining one pair is enough. To top it off, it's NOT comfortable, unless perhaps you have hooves. OK, there is an exception: The only shoes that weren't ruined were deck shoes, worn only for sailing, without socks, and immersed in copious amounts of water on a regular basis.
