The shoe is for people who have a certain running technique that prevents injury. And toe socks were damn popular in HS. I knew one girl who'd wear capris with knee high toe socks with flip flops (we're CA, it's always supposed to flip flop weather) for 6AM marching band practise. Needless to say, I absolutely loved her quirky style. I wrote a comment in the original shoeblogs section of this site.
