Daniel Handler, a.k.a. author Lemony Snicket, demonstrates the importance of choosing a bowtie in proportion to one’s head.
Combine a substantial noggin with a tiny tie, and one’s head can perilously look like a balloon that’s been tied off.

Hey now…it’s his favorite tie from when he was ringbearer at his mom’s third wedding, when he was 8. Izzy, surely you’re a sentimental fool?

The Manolo is most correct about the bow tie. Avoid it when possible. The vertical line of the the conventional tie is flattering. The bow tie is difficult, the too small is bad, the too large isn’t much better. Some people just do not look right in it. If the bow tie is required, get help in selecting it.
In the South, and Southwest the bolo tie is sometimes worn it is a regional equivalent of the bow tie. Avoid italso unless you are going to a barbeque.
