Surgical Precision

By Izzy

Patrick Dempsey

With his skinny tie and sliver of a pocket square, Grey’s Anatomy’s Patrick Dempsey cuts a sharp figure.

But is the space at the top of the knot in his tie a good thing or a bag thing? That’s not a diss Izzy – I’m honestly wondering. I just finished reading Joseph Abboud’s great fashion memoir and now I’m obsessing on those types of details.

It’s a great book by the way, highly recommended.

One starts the day without the gap above the knot, but as you move, you can’t help but the heavy silk of the Hermes slip and loosen itself. What to do but to leave it be? A chap shouldn’t fuss too much about such things.

With practice you can adjust your tie by the way it feels when in the correct place so you don’t have to run the mirror. The gap is really unattractive but takes a long time to build a shirt collection with perfect fit. What about the sleeve cuffs?

Eh, not a fan of the thin tie. I have some left over from when i was a skinny teenager, but I don’t think I could wear them now. Dempsey’s lean and mean enough to pull it off though.
