There are Scottish regiments in service to Great Britain, and plaid pants, aka &quot;military trews,&quot; are usually worn by members of the lowland Scottish regiments as part of their dress uniforms and mess uniforms. Trews are also part of the uniform of the composite regiment known as The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons).  Note that the folks who are wearing plaid pa -- that is, &quot;trews,&quot; are &lt;b&gt;armed&lt;/b&gt; whilst they wear them.  Coincidence?  I think not.</description>
