Into the Void, or Trending Like Beckham

This article speculates whether soccer superstar David Beckham’s professional arrival in the U.S. will fill a “fashion void” in American sports. With great fear, Izzy recalls Nietzsche’s warning: “When you look into the abyss, the abyss also looks into you.”

  1. Not likely, but I suspect that he fills a void in British music.

  2. The article also makes an interesting point regarding Beckham’s size and shape compared to other athletes’ sizes and shapes. American football and basketball players tend to be very large and/or tall because of the nature of the sport. Thus, it is much more difficult to find appropriate clothes that do not need to be tailored. At the same time, most, if not all, designers do not design clothes for men of that size. It’s easier for Beckham to follow the trends because he has the ideal shape.
That said, while I don’t think like all his outfits, I think he tends to dress better than his wife.
