Dorkus Maximus

Mayor Bloomberg in shorts

As Spring finally arrives on the East Coast, many men are no doubt getting the perverse desire to show off their hairy legs and gnarled knees. But before you reach for the shorts, Izzy beseeches you to keep in mind this image of New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg, who is usually well-dressed. (Note also that His Honor would have looked less goofy had he chosen a slimmer-fitting polo shirt with shorter sleeves.) And at the very least, if you absolutely, positively must wear dress shorts, do your fellow citizens a favor, and avoid white socks please.

    Avoid socks altogether.

    And shorter shorts.

He looks like a bag of potatoes.

Haha! Great post! That guy looks just like my dad. I’m actually trying to get him to dress a little better. I saw some great golfing outfits (my dad’s style) at Lord and Taylor the other day. I’m going to drag him out with me and try to get him some nicer clothes. Wish me luck!

Hilarious. Looks like he’s ready for retirement in Boca, somewhere Florida..hehe

C’mon people, give the guy some credit. He matched shoes with his belt, and very sartorially coordinated shirt with his socks :)

  6. la petite chou chou Says:

He could have solved most of the issues by just putting on a shirt that is the right size. You can tell it is too big for him by the way it hangs off the shoulder. Same shirt, not in double XL, would probably be fine.

  7. Jeff the Baptist Says:

The problem is that if he was wearing a slimmer shirt, it would only accentuate his flabby midsection. The reason older men dress like this is that it hides their belly and lack of muscle tone.

Also, those aren’t dress shorts. Outside of Bermuda, there really isn’t such a thing as dress shorts. They’re just khakis golf shorts.

But yes, don’t be afraid to wear dark socks with appropriate shoes.
