The Waistcoats Are Coming

If one’s not careful, the wrong vest can make one look like a fuddy-duddy or seventies throwback. Thus, Izzy was pleased to see the youthful but scholarly vests J. Crew is offering for the new schoolyear, including this herringbone number in a soft wool.

While I generally like vests and waistcoats, J. Crews vests look ridiculous and ill-fitting. The vest covers the ribcage but stops at about the belly button leaving an inch or two of shirt and tie exposed before you hit the belt line. Either cut the vest longer or pull the model’s pants up! You should not see shirt or even belt below a properly fitted vest.

I’m with Jeff the Baptist on the fit, but I’m glad this classic look is gaining popularity. Its timeless, a little old-school and a little dandyish. Great post though.
