Shame on you. I enjoy reading The Manolo's suite of blogs because they tend to be tolerant and accepting places. This is a notable and unpleasant exception.

Wow, just reading some of the comments on the Times link, I feel nothing but awe for this man. I think he's a very brave individual, for so many reasons--for the reason Embly mentioned above, doing something which re-aligns him with being female, something he couldn't be comfortable being, in order to have a child with his wife because she can't conceive, but badly wants to; for seeing an opportunity to fulfill himself as well as his wife by bringing a child into the world; by risking his own life to do this (an ectopic pregnancy is nothing to sneeze at); and despite all the nonsense, unwarranted judgment and discrimination from people who claim to be "family", "health care providers", and "friends". Isn't the love this couple have for one another obvious? I wish every child brought into this world were coming into such a committed and loving home, with such strong and admirable parents.

Izzy, you can't see that? I think this bearded pregnant person is beautiful.

Milk and orange juice actually go quite well together; think orange julius or creamcicle, as long as they're blended and not heated you're fine. What a glorious struggle it must be to be a transgender man that has decided to become pregnant. You're finally stable with your perception of yourself and then you decide to do something that re-aligns you with a gender that you never felt comfortable being to begin with. But you're going to have a baby with your wife, and what can be more exciting than that?

Perhaps the Izzy's blood is simply curdled in the presence of all infants? I read nothing to indicate that there is anything particularly unusual in the gene sequence of either parent likely to cause concern. In light of the wife's medical misfortune, I am happy for this couple that this certainly uncommon alternative was available to them, and hope for a happy, healthy pregnancy and a safe delivery.

I am also extremely disappointed in the censorious, self-righteous tone taken by the Izzy, as well as the narrow-mindedness evinced thereby. I can think of many people other than our lovely Annalucia who have successfully combined "beared" and "pregnant." Over at Manolo for the Brides, the readers are tearfully happy for the many people in California who are now able to marry the ones they love; it is disappointing, and jarring, to find not only this level of intolerance, but apparently a smug certainty that the readers would agree with it.

It is certainly possible that some may; I do not.

How could you say such a thing about a not-yet-born child! As far as we know, the pregnancy is going normally, and by stating what you did, you're implying offensive things about transgender people AND pregnancy, and implying that the blood-curdling ugliness of transgender and/or pregnancy is heritable and will show effects on the child. Are you implying that transgender couples shouldn't have children? I can't believe this was put on one of the Manolo's blogs.

Well, the gentleman in question was born a woman, and presumably still has the female parts, so we are not exactly dealing with an Arnold Schwarzenegger comedy here, though the Annalucia must admit that all this gender-bending does give her a headache.

As for ``bearded,'' the Annalucia has more facial hair than her husband (thought it is kept under control by the lovely Serbian beautician who is a deft hand with the facial wax) and has successfully had five children despite follicular excess.
