A Natty Tie

The key to choosing a solid-colored necktie is the texture of the fabric.   Izzy contends that a totally smooth silk tie almost always looks cheap, no matter how much you paid for it. A better choice would be something like this pastel tie from Ben Silver woven in natte, a fine basket weave.

Yes, I very much agree. When my nephews give me smooth silk ties (which happens occasionally) I wear them once, am photographed in said tie, email the picture, and then dispose of the article of clothing. Wasteful, but I don’t really need to wear a smooth silk tie as a belt, either!

The nubby weave of the tie you illustrate is perfect!
