Located between the Norwegian and North Seas, Scotland’s Shetland archipelago is a cold and wet place. But without that inhospitable weather, it would never have given the world its incredible wool, famous for its loft and warmth. A Shetland sweater, like this one from Brooks Brothers, ought to be a staple for anyone in a cold climate.

Long live the Shetland sweater! I’m disappointed that Land’s End and L.L. Bean, which have sold good Shetlands in the past, seem to be deemphasizing them. Brooks Brothers continues faithful, as you note (I’m wearing a navy Shetland from BB right now); so does J. Press, with its “Shaggy Dog” Shetlands. The Pendleton catalogue also has some lovely-looking ones, under $70.

Thank you, Cacciaguida for the tip about J. Press. The “Shaggy Dog” looks good and I just ordered one. Shetland sweaters are more and more difficult to find. Shetland is the best!
